Pre Cut window tint... Has anyone tried it?
ChatWithaNinja replied to JohnMasters's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Isn't there a spray on tint for the inside of taillights? You could probably use that because the sunroof is removable... I don't know how that would turn out on glass though... -
Pre Cut window tint... Has anyone tried it?

Nice. I just got mine in the mail so maybe this weekend I'll give it a shot. I got tint kits for both my pathfinder and my Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance, so I'll be doing the mobster caddy first as a testing bed, then the pathavoider. I'll post up my results... hopefully I'll have the patience for this. -
Oh, and a really nice pathfinder! I'm also a father and try to spend every chance with the kids as well. Kudos to you for doing that.

Issue #1 is easy. I had to do this on mine when I got it. http://www.q45.org/timers.html

Is this Sean? Forgive my prying, but a good friend of mine got a 91 and his stereo bay is also a mangled mess fit for a rat. Check fuses. I've popped so many odd fuses while wiring in stereos that I keep a box of them handy in my electronics toolkit. From the description, I'm thinking that you cannot roll up the passenger window from the drivers controls - does the wiring from the switch to the passenger window not run through the center console somewhere?

What did you do to your Pathfinder today?
ChatWithaNinja replied to RedRider3141's topic in The Garage
Swapped out my beat down leather seats for some cloth seats in good condition. found some speaker covers for the rear! yay! no more ghetto blaster! swapped out the center console bucket for one that still has the stock cup holders! -

Thanks John. I've been thinking about the self tint thing for a while and then this thread got bumped back up, which is awesome. I'll probably go ahead and buy the tint and keep it ready for when I have 4 hours of time on a weekend... Never know when that'll be. Hey look! You are in Atlanta too! Nice! -

This weekend I: put in new rear brake shoes. replaced the missing headrests for the back seat put LEGO wheels on my 2wd "Pathavoider" because I had good tires on them and crap tires on the M/T rims painted the center caps on the legos replaced the missing headlight bolts to hold the left headlight in place (threw away the zip ties) Thats it for this weekend. -
One question about the drum to disc conversion...
ChatWithaNinja replied to ChatWithaNinja's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
well ok then. Breaking new ground it is!! -
Are we talking leather vs cloth or cloth vs cloth? I have leather in my SE and the leather is torn to shreds and held together with duct tape. Despite that they are super supportive (hard/firm). The cloth seats in my donor XE vehicle are going to be put in the SE. The fabric seems pretty rough, but they aren't torn to pieces like the leather so the choice is obvious... The XE seats aren't as supportive (hard) so longer trips will probably be better. I'm going over to the donor vehicle today if I can (maybe even to swap out the seats), and I'll sit in the cloth seats for a few minutes with shorts and a wife beater on and let you know just how rough the fabric is against my legs and back. side note: I'm starting to think that SE and XE were random letters put on the pathfinders and really hold no meaning other than a resale value...

So no one knows if this can be done on a 2wd pathfinder? I'm kinda surprised. -
So I got this pathfinder and no where to ride...

Do a search in google for out of the way camping spots in your area. -
ok,more info. I got to take a look at it after the engine cooled down and now it revs to around 3-4K over and over like a redneck trying to get a race at a stoplight. I checked the throttle body and the throttle plate doesn't move so its not the cruise control yanking the cable. while it is revving I can give it more gas and it revs higher just like it supposed to. Maybe the cold start "choke" is messed up? The damn thing has 240K on it -
-
Friend was setting the cruise control on his 03 pathy and it went full throttle on him and wouldn't stop. Keep in mind I've been troubleshooting this remotely with my friend who knows next to nothing about repair. I've gotten him to check the cruise control fuse and there wasn;t one?? Maybe the fuse box is mislabeled or misleading. we disconnected the battery and held down the brake for 10 seconds to discharge the system and it still floors upon startup. The throttle cable looks slack like the plate is wide open, but a Samaritan stopped by and checked the throttle and said the butterfly was fine and moved freely, so maybe my friend is just describing normal slackedness of the throttle cable. I've gotten him to stomp the throttle multiple times in an effort to break it free, but nothing changed. I'll be meeting him later tonight, so can you experts give me some things to look for? Thanks.

That's far. Taking it to a $20 emissions place with the rollers might net you some info if you have those in your county... What about swapping out an ECU temporarily? Do you know anyone who might loan an ECU for a minute? Oh, and try to return everything to a stock setting after trying them out. If you get no improvements altering the timing or swapping out a sensor, put it back the way it was before continuing. this way you can be sure that you didn't actually fix it last week but now the timing adjustment you made a month ago is screwing up the successful results. Still think you should focus on the fuel though. A deteriorating problem means a gradual change. A bad sensor isn't ever gradual. Air, fuel, spark. You did check spark, right? Remove the injectors and get them cleaned. If you are feeling adventurous...

Which owners are more rabid: 4Runner or Pathfinder?
ChatWithaNinja replied to jwblue's topic in General Forums
I'm going to say pathfinder because we have to fight 3 times as hard for parts, so we have learned to be the squeaky wheel. -
Damn, I thought for sure it was that... OK, here is another idea. Take it to a dyno shop. They can strap it down and actually monitor it while its running under load. When I used to tune turbo cars, a lot of things would be obvious when it was on the dyno that wasn't obvious on the road. Once we had an air filter that looked perfectly new, but when it was under load the paper element wasn't glued correctly and was sucked flat against the intake hose restricting flow. And when it parked it went right back into "like new" shape.

Yeah, shop vac is a little out there. I would do it, but I am kinda crazy. You could get a hand held fuel siphon pump at the auto store for $5 to pump it out. Plus with the little clear hose, you could watch this crap coming out of the tank. I'd be interested to see that, so take a pic if you do it!
-
You could shop vac it out. Be sure to do it outside though, the fumes are going to be severe. You really need to do this. With the amount of stuff on your pickup filter, there is a lot of stuff floating around the bottom of your tank. I would shop vac it out and then check the gasoline to see whats floating around in there. Then I would strain it (if possible, otherwise let it settle) put it back in the tank, slosh it around and shop vac it out again and see if you can get some more sediment. Focus on the fuel. You are definitely lean, judging by the spark plugs. Seriously, go through the fuel system with a magnifying glass - from the fuel filling port to the injectors. Speaking of which... "Black stuff" - Was it rubber flakes? Could your fuel filler hose be deteriorating on the inside? Pull it and check. If you've got a bunch of rubber material in there, that would do it. It could also just be vibration and flex in the hose causing it to flake about in there.
-
Is it possible that some of those little black flakes you mentioned got into your fuel pump? You've got the new fuel pump. Go ahead and swap it out. At the same time clean your lines. And clean out your fuel tank. Think of it this way. You know when you drink water or tea with lemon in it? All of a sudden the straw won't let you sip anymore. You stop sipping and look at the straw - fine. Then a minute or so later you can't sip again. WTH?? You check the straw again - fine! You start sipping while watching the straw and you see a seed stick to the bottom of the straw stopping flow! Of course when you stop sipping and the vacuum is gone, the seed just swims innocently away... That could be your fuel tank. Full of BS that clogs your fuel pickup when running.

Will toyota truck rims fit my 95 pathfinder?
ChatWithaNinja replied to AzZo's topic in General Forums
Kingman: Are those Chevy wheels? I feel like I am looking at a Blazer when I look at yours. Those wheels just scream "Chevy" to me... "Watch for backspacing on Toyota wheels" What does that mean exactly? Not enough space for the brakes? When you turn too sharp you hit suspension mechanicals? Thanks. -

Awesome site! Thanks! Fixed the damn radio bay. I had installed a single din CD player and a bin underneath, but the weight of the radio kept making the bin pop out - thats what you get with a generic single din bin. Works great now that the bin is on top. Also took off the glovebox to check the leaf buildup in the condenser box. 2 pinestraw and a leaf... Got cool pictures of my daughter helping me out though. I'll edit the post when I get them off my phone. -
I just bought mine recently, so not much tree parking. I did this and found 2 pinestraw and one leaf. But the coils did have a lot of fine junk matted to them. I vacuumed them off so it wasn't a wasted effort.
