  1. hi all, going to paint the pathy. It's the riveria blue (blue gray) and I'm looking for pictures of safari green (1992) color. update: Started, hopefully by Friday she'll look good! -jules
  2. we just installed an oil and temp gauge in the 92 XE. Put it right under the stereo, where there is a square plastic piece. Dremeled two holes for the pods. Moved the computer module under the carpet (left side passenger), still have to insulate and secure it better though. It may work w/ the pvc extension an inch or so out and keeping that module in there. Looks good, we couldn't find a good place to put it w/o it hitting our knees getting in/out.
  3. ok folks, finally done. 5 full days and each day posed lots of challenges. The top dogs: 1) getting the engine out...didn't know the 3rd member had to be dropped for it to come out. Funky 4wd oil pan 2) Getting the engine and transmission to mate together. 3 hours of work to move like 1 inch. 3) Getting the 3rd member back into place. Taking out the two front brackets gave us a little more wiggle room, that heavy Mofo was tough. 4) Me newbie dropped a screw (don't ask how) into the engine when I replaced the valve cover gaskets. Caused the engine to seize and ripped up the belt. One tow truck later and 3 more hours in the garage.....We are up and running great!! -bounce- Thanks for the tips guys, everything you've said so far have been right on. Now for the body/paint! oh, and I've added some pix. http://www.worldisround.com/articles/321738/ -jules

  7. nope not done yet. Need help. We are 12 hours into it tonight and cannot get the engine out. The front axle is in the way of the oil pan. Gary (my friend) has spent the last couple of hours trying to get that engine out. He's pooped. Ok, does he have to remove the 3rd cross member to get this engine out? it's a 92 4x4 model. thanks. julie
  8. I will have a friend put a used vg30e motor into my 1992 4x4 pathfinder. The used engine is off a '94 2wd truck. Will the oil pan and oil pump need to be swapped also? thanks. julie
  9. thanks a millions guys. Found a '94 off a 2wd (80k) hardbody truck. per your advice, I'm replacing: water pump clutch thermostat t-belt/tensioner rear main seal cam seals I see the exhaust manifold studs may need to be replaced. Is this true for '94 also? Is this the correct part and how many do I need? Dorman Exhaust Stud Kit: HELP!®; 1982-1992 GM; 10mm 1.50 x 77mm; 2 Per Package Part Number: 03104 (checker's auto online) I'll post pics when all is said and done.
  10. hi experts, clueless newbie here, please don't boot me yet! Acquired a 92 XE 4x4 and didn't have a mechanic look at it before I got it. My mechanic friend checked the compression and said prob. 2 worn rings. My only option here (haw. islands) right now is a used '93 engine for $500 from a wrecking yard. It has 112k and no warranty. If I get it (he gives his word it's good, but can't do compression test) will I need to make sure that it has any special parts or markings to be sure everything fits? it's the VG30E. My mechanic friend will install everything, but wants me to pick it up as he's busy all week. Any advice would be appreciated. julie also, should I look into getting a quest or maxima engine? I want the swap to go as smooth as possible, thanks again folks
  11. Hi there, I just got a '92 XE and the previous owner had the same problem. Looks like he had replaced battery, start, and ignition assembly (twice) and the relay. Looks like the ignition assembly has worked (for now) and we'll see if it hangs in there for the long run!
  12. hi, same problem with my 92 XE 4x4. Mine in manual. Any ideas so far?
