  1. Since you are adding a comment to something that was written almost 18 months ago. I have put a completely rebuilt motor in the pathy and rebuilt the front end. She is still not on the road because I just can not find the time to complete the wiring.
  2. As for your question about manifolds having a different bolt pattern. Pre 90s have a different bolt pattern than post 90. I discovered this during my last engine rebuild. I had a pile of parts from an VG30I and a VG30E. I just grabbed a manifold and and when I went to put it on the block I discovered thepattern difference. I don't remember if it was both right and left that are different and I am pretty sure that just the center connection is different.
  3. One of the problems is that there are no body heat sheilds left on my 91. I replaced the floor above the cat. So I guess i have to fabricate some tyo eof shield.
  4. Lots of you guys have thorleys and other make headers. The original pipe set has lots of heat shields to keep electrics from burning off and other things from overheating. How do you keep the heat in on the headers or are all of the rusting broken heat shields on my Pathy a waste of aluminum?
  5. When I saw your last pic I said just about the same thing as Killvox. :o
  6. Good for you. Now Abilene TX will not be safe any more from Vidro and the Pathy
  7. I got the point and pulled the intake. I moved the sensor to the position suggested by MaritimeMan. Now I can reach it. :gossip:
  8. There are alot of bright inventive people on this forum. Anyone ever change a knock sensor without pulling the intake manifold???? :help:
  9. dberdusco is so correct. The input shaft in an auto just slides in. All you need is a donor shaft. Now comes the question why did it crack. My guess would be it cracked during removal not during installation. Sometimes if you don't get everything just right there is up and down stress on the input shaft. You have to remember that there is a lot of weight on that input shaft with the converter hanging there. Hey dberdusco I would like you comment on this. I do trannys but not for a living.
  10. The change out of the pump requires the pan to come off. I do not remember if your truck is a auto or a 5 speed. The auto is easier and the 5 speed is trouble. This is because the auto will disengage from the engine while the tranny is still in place. The 5 speed has to be moved back out of the way. Based on your descriptionof this mechanic I think he is guessing. With this new data about the oil pressure being ok I would put a quart of autotranny fluid (type F) in the oil and drive the truck a 100 miles or so. Type F is a very high detergent fluid. It will clean up any dirt and deposits from the valves and lifters. As for the walking valve... valves "walk" under high revs not low revs. The VG30E will almost run without valve springs at a low idle. (I did say almost for those of you ready to beat me with a stick). If the oil pressure is fine, the most likely problem is a sticky lifter. Lifters can collapse, but Nissan's are not noted for this problem. I suggested the oil pump when you said that the pressure dropped off at low RPM. Low pressure a low RPM is a sign of a worn pump. A worn pump would reduce the oil flow to the heads at low RPM and can cause them to make noise. Not knowing your level of aptitude on these things.... if I owned the pathy I'd just add the AT type F and drive the truck noise and all. With everything you have had replaced on the engine I believe that you have been working with someone who either does not care or does not know Nissans. I say this because I can believe anyone would replace the rods, rings, cams, bearings woter pump and not replace the oil pump. The rebuild kit with all those parts (except cams) and the pistons and the oil pump is under $500 and all the parts are included... even the oil pump. Get to someone who knows Nissans. In the mean time just drive it. Ok 88 and Mookie and Precise1 ... comments sssh
  11. Bad oil pump. Oil pumps are cheap by comparison to cutting the crank and alot less work. When you rebuilt a VG30 or VG33 always replace the water pump and the oil pump. I have 3 oil pumps in my garage and 2 of them are probably fine. The only other potential is a bad pickup fo rthe pump. Nissan really did a engineering nightmare to design the pan on the Pathy. This should have been a 2 piece pan so that is could have bene serviced.
  12. There is an additive called RXP. 2.5 oz will cost about $6.Add this to a tank of fuel, run it till 1/2 is gone, get the engine as hot as possible and the Pathy will pass. They pass even without cat converters.
  13. AS I am tearing into the 95 it is not the great deal that I thought I have. I am pretty good at looking things over, but this time I was wrong. I am positive thst the person I bought it off of did not know its condition either. I am going to hang onto the 91 for awhile until I am sure what I am going to do. Basically I have one good frame and one good body. Sorry about that people. I sould be kicking myself, except I only have $700 tied up into the 95.
  14. My 95 pathy was delivered today. The motor is so toasted on this pathy is is funny. But it is a 5 speed. So the old auto is going to be dismantled because the engine is a fresh rebuild and headed for a 5 speed mating. As time goes by I'll offer up parts off the 91. I can say the auto tranny is in excellent shape and I know I have no need for it. Anyone interested. I'd be VERY reasonable. It is in Cleveland.
  15. What guage plate did you use? I assume looking at the pics that the frame was only rotted thru on the outside of the rail?. Did you just hammer the bend into the replacement plate? Was the spring pocket in the one pic also in trouble?
  16. In order to stick with a Pathy in the world of high gas prices I am picking up a 95 with a 5 speed. The head gaskets are blown, but I have a fresh rebuilt VG30E in the garage. Now the big issue for me. It has some frame rot :o . After all my ranting and raving about not buying a pathy with frame rot, I bought one because of the 5 speed. Ok guys talk me off this ledge I am on. The best way to weld up the frame is........
  17. I have removed auto trannys before. You leave the trasfer case attached when you remove the tranny. There are bolts in places you can not reach when it is in place, so I doubt anyone could remove it without the transfer case. Now if the motor is staying in the truck, then you have to remove the torsion bars. Not a real hard job as long as the bolts are not rusted up very bad. If there is a lot of rust under the truck, then you are going to have trouble. Finally the tranny will need 8 inches more ground clearance for the body in order to slide out. The only real surprize is that this tranny is HEAVY.
  18. Manual trannys fail generally by one of two means. 1) abuse- just trying to get it to do something it was not designed for. Typically towing a load that is too heavy or jamming the gears between 1st and reverse. Yes usually you tear out the clutch, but gear damage also happens. 2) Wrong oil/too little oil/dirty oil. These gears do not use GL-5 They need a lube that is designed for max contact of gear teeth and not a sliding action. Usually GL-4 is ok. But there are better people here than me on lubes for 5 speeds. You have to keep it clean in other words it is a maintenance item. I have not ever seen heat a problem for a 5 speed, but I do learn new things. So most of these 5 speed failures you are refering to are probably lube related. Yes I know that sometimes S%^& happens. Properly maintained and not abused a 5 speed should go 1,000,000 miles. Comments from the floor
  19. Ok the 93 Pathy "sold" but did not sell. This time Summer5218 wrote bad feedback on the "deadbeat buyer" The problem is that the deadbeat has a feedback rating of -1 and this is the same bidder that won the truck in a previous auction. So now seller is faking his own auction bids and faking the feedback as well. He gets almost no bids on teh pathy so he has to know people are watching. I have not examined his other auction, but I doubt there is any difference.

    Crunch

Is this problem a PA issue? In Ohio we bang together but never because someone is trying to stop. I am not totally sure what that wide pedal on the floor is for myself. The long narrow one I understand. When I want to get out of the truck I just roll slow and jamb it in park. Sorry to hear about the other idiots on teh road causing you trouble.
  21. If you follow the forum you may know what I am going to say already. You live in FLA. for the price you can do alot better. East coast rigs in the condition of this pathy and age should run $2500 or under. The engine bay has been steam cleaned and oiled up to look good. I would be very concerned about the tranny and I am going to guess that the rear suspension busings are shot. An additional item is withthe increasing price of gas this sellers market is growing smaller every day. At 15 to 18 mpg these Pathys are not exactly fuel efficient.
  22. Excellent !!1 . This is exactly the type of informational feedback that I like to see. I would never had suspected a cracked casting as a portionof this type of failure.. Thanks again for the reply
  23. Well the 93 Pathy is back on Ebay again after it was sold. Summer 5118 or Jazz54XX or what every they call themsevles tomorrow is selling the no reserve pathy again. This make 4 sales and 5 relistings that I know of. While there is neg feedback on the seller none of it is on this pathy. Additionally none of the "buyers" have neg feedback. I have asked the seller what they really want for teh Pathy and never received a reply. I have asked one "buyer" who was quoted as the pathy was junk for a listing of why they said the pathy was junk--no reply. I am obcessed with this listing and the ridiculous things that the seller is trying to do. Help me I can't stop.
  24. 88 is correct again. . I did not write it but I did assume that evryone knew I was not including the 4 cyl tranny. Next time I'll be more specific
  25. Just run an older Pathy to fix this speedo problem. Mine runs off a cable, no electronics here to screw up.
