  1. Ok this is an interesting discussion from a non pathy stand point as well. Being one of the old guys around on this forum I glossed over this because "I always knew that this is how you fixed this problem" I have done this for literally decades. ( yes throttle bodies go back decades in some vehicles) I ran accross something different in a Ford just recently. The throttle body had a sticker saying not to clean it because there was a special coating on the body and butterfly that would be damaged. I ignored this as most stickers are there to get you to run to the dealer. There was a colored coating on the butterfly and throttle body and the cleaner did take it off. Anyone know why it was there or what it was suppose to do??? The car's performance is fine.
  2. Well I changed the timing belt on my 91 pathy using 88's original thread. I did have a mark for the crank on mine. It was very faint, but there. The only way I found was to put the #1 at TDC and feel very carefully for the mark. I then pinted it so that I could see it as I put things together. What I posted at the time was that the old belt had the right cam off by one tooth. The left cam was fine. I corrected everyhting when I put it all back together.
  3. The auto tranny is totally controlled by the computer. When it shifts etc. So the fact that you can reset it most probably means that the trans is ok and that the computer is ok. The most probable cause of the problem is a sensor. There are a lot of sensors on this rig, everything from an rpm sensor to a fluid pressure sensor. The trick is which one is the problem. If you can get access to a Nissan shop manual then you maybe able to start diagnosising the problem. The troubleshooting section is about 50 pages and frequently doubles back on itself. It really is to complex to try to discribe within the forum. I have many pages already scanned in helping another person, but I do not think I have the section you need scanned. I do not know what to suggest, because the office scanner is broke and I already asked the bosses secretary to do it for Diesel Boy, I really do not have any favors left to ask for. See if a local Nissan dealership will copy the pages for you. One of the local dealers here has done it from time to time for me. -thnkboutit-
  4. Ksar you stated that you dropped it off to have it rebuilt. Does this mean you took it out or did you have someone do all the work? A completely remanufactured tranny for a 4wd Pathy is about $1650 with the torque converter. This is a "factory" (not Nissan) rebuild not a bench top rebuild done at most trans shops. A transmission shop really is not equipeed to rebuild a tranny. They can change a few parts and call it rebuit, but you could suffer the consequenses. GOOD tranny shops are very hard to find. A good tranny shop will repair the problem, not "rebuid" the trans. They will change the clutches, and the pumps and not charge you $2600.If caught early most auto tranny problems can be fixed. However most people will just continue to drive them untill they completely die. The problem of no reverse can be many things. The simple statement made is not enough to diagnosis the problem. Yes it can be the rear pump. It could also be a plugged flow channel or a stuck valve. Now if can change it out yourself then $1600 is a good deal if your only other choice is a chain transmission shop. Before anyone tells me of a tranny shop that is good, I know that there are some people out there that are knowledgable and honest. Finding them is the problem.
