  1. ok, earlier this week my engine on my dd blew up and lit on fire, so i had to start driving my pathy everyday. well i noticed that it has what sounds like a rod knock. how can i figure out if thats what it is exactly? i cant afford to blow up another engine. i'm really hoping its not a rod knock cuz i already started buying parts for my pathy's make over. is my best bet to just put a stick around on the engine and try to find where its coming from? please let me know if there are any other ways or by this time next week it could be gone. thanks
  2. cool, i think i will try that one of these days, but would that really make it feel like its runnin rich?
  3. well i actually payed a shop to do my timing once since i dont have a gun and no one has ever showed me how to do it so for all i know they could have done a @!*% job on my timing. and it doesnt always die after a rev like that just when its cold and some rare occasions
  4. well the was some corosion on the cap and rotor yesterday when i looked so i sanded it down (no money at this exact moment for parts, but soon) and i pulled the plugs to see how they looked. strangly they looked pretty good. no carbon build up, light tan core, no oil or anything. i did not get to pul all of them though. i have dirt packed around alot of them so much that a spark plug socket wont ever grab so i need to clean those out pretty soon. and the wires i dont think are very old at all. air filter is clean and fuel may be a lil old but still should be decent. now i just fired it up and let it warm up a bit. but when i reved it up a lil a couple times it back fired out the throttle body (i had air filter assembly off and was reving it from under the hood). then i tried doing a full rev to redline just to see what it would do, it did it fine, maybe a lil slow but not too horrible but when i let off and the tach was goin down it went all the way down and my vehicle stalled. oh and is the MAF the plug on the drivers side of the throttle body?
  5. i am live 6 miles away from where hwy 5 crosses hwy 152. and i do try to look through old topics before i post stuff, those things i figured people could just answer really quick. i know from other forums i've been on that its best to look for stuff than fill up space askin the same questions over and over again lol
  6. ok, will my ecu show tranny codes? cause then i can just look there and see why its acting funny.
  7. ok, my 88 has never felt like it has full power compared to my old 89, the 88 has no low end at all. and if its cold or hot or anything, at idle or while driving if i hit the throttle fast is almost stalls. once its warmed up it idles fine and at the right speed but i just dont feel i am getting all my power and that it feels like its running really rich. what could be the problem?
  8. whats up, i just joined this forum and decided i would introduce myself and tell you guys some more about me. i grew up on a dirt road that was like wheeling everyday, 4 creek crossing, and a couple steep hills (one was indian clay and was a lil hairy in the winter). this is where i started wheelin. i started when i was eleven and keep goin to this day (i'm 21 now so you can do the math) i've had two pathfinders 88 and 89 and my mom has an xterra that i will take out sometimes, so i am used to nissans. i live in los banos now, (under an hour from hollister hills) and lookin for some new wheelin buds once i get some money in. but i do have some questions starting off that maybe you guys could help. first is what does AC stand for? it looks as if it is used as a company name but not sure. second is what is UCA? it looks like its some suspension part. and finally for now, i know that jeep grand cherokee springs will give bout 3 inches in the rear but how do most of you lift the front and what else is requierd? i was hoping to save up and either get the calmini system, or the system the have at 4x4parts.com but they are not cheap. thanks for all your support and sorry this ran a little long.
  9. i had the same thing happen to my 88, mine made this wierd click sound for awhile then stopped workin, never did fix it lol
  10. does this mean anything, when ever i fire it up the power light from my tranny flashes a couple times.
  11. ok i will check that out. i hope thats if cuz on my last path, it was the tranny that died and i dont want that to happen to this one. i will post back after i tinker with it, which might not be today, hopefully tomorrow
  12. its all stock, no new tranny lines or coolers, and the fluid needs to be changed. i thought it must be a electircal porblem or something. but i also thought if it was it would throw a engine light but it doesnt. oh and my path has bout 185k on it.
  13. hi, new to your forum but i've had two pathfinders, wheeled them both and my mom has an xterra that i've wheeled. but now to my problem, my pathfinders tranny is acting wierd and i need some advise. if i am driving it rough or bounce it hard it seems like it goes into some sort of limp mode, it wont go past 2nd gear, i have to manually down shift if i want 1st gear and even then if feels like the torque converter is slipping and that i'm only getting bout half the power i should have. but then i let it sit for awhile and it goes back to normal. what could this be?
