  1. 4 link is good!!! Those trucks you speak of with one shock on each side of the axle are leaf sprung, which isnt bad,PLENTY of people have been doing nice leaf sprung setups but they can have bad axlewrap, and 4 links wont get that wrap like a leaf srpung suspension will.
  2. yea lol, the first time i ever did it wasnt on purpose, i snapped my rear swap bar and so i just had to rock with out one and saw that it did help the flex. I wouldnt suggest on road driving with out the rear one though lol. Im used to hoopty wheelers that have tons of body roll and it even worried me ha ha
  3. Well as far as the weight, Xj's are a unibody rig while your pathfinder has a boxed frame. From what ive notice while wheeling mine is the weight over the rear end on top of it being 4 linked helps plant that axle on the ground and hook pretty good. The IFS fronts dont do too much but the rear susp stock, esp if you disc the rear sway bar before wheeling, flexes pretty amazing for a stock older rig. Yea the 3.0 isnt a powerhouse but it does the job decent enough. Just be careful when pulling people out, I love helping fellow wheelers esp when they need it most, but at the same time, Ive had to get towed home cause I tried to tow a 8 lug k5 out of some mud and it tore my tie rods up.
  4. Not sure lol, that pic has that tint cause the sun had gone doen the mountain a bit and so i had to edit it to lighten it up some. but maybe this pic will show the blue a little better lol. Thats what color Im going to paint it some time in sept. and then ill just paint the wheels fully black by that point. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7n11cydd406f8uj/2013-08-08%2019.04.22.jpg
  5. Honestly I think its half the fun of driving a pathfinder. Guys in Jeeps and other rigs will look at my pathfinders ive had on 31s open front and rear and ill go places they never thought. Its to the point that when I had to get rid of my last pathy and ended up with a solid axle yota, my buddies were telling me I needed to get another pathy. So if I can make believers out of people that would never even look twice at my rig, then Id say that I have load of confidence in them lol. Esp if you pop the links off the rear sway when you get to your wheeling spot lol
  6. oh, and in case anyone was wondering about the color choice on the wheels lol, i took those off another project that was white with blue. Im actually going to paint them all black and paint the pathfinder that color blue. just going to rattle can it but Im getting pretty good at it now lol
  7. they are some 31s with a decent offset rim, not crazy but enough to make it a little more stable. and i wish i had the tire carrier!! my last two were se's and had that but this one is a xe and is just basic model. but im fine with that lol. when i throw it on the lift this weekend for the clutch and tune up, im going to crank the t bars some so it sits a little more level. plus just got a magnaflow muffler and AFE filter so we will see how well those work too.
  8. Is California considered PacNW?? Cause Im down in the bay area. Bout a hour south of the Golden Gate Bridge to help people get a idea lol
  9. Ok gents, lets see if this works https://www.dropbox.com/sc/fd51qz3ko29shzy/WpvfDL_ggU
  10. ah I see, yea i was trying to post the pics but every way i tried wasnt working lol. ill see what I can do bout posting some pics.
  11. Oh, took it to the redwoods by my house the other day too. My plans for it now are bring it back to running and driving great, Im going to build some sliders when i get some more hole saw blades for the notcher, build some bumpers and just have some fun with it. Its going to be more of a camping rig than wheeler for a bit but one day Ill SAS it. But I want to have some fun and put some miles under it before I tear it apart. https://mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment/u/1/?ui=2&ik=4a2bb50492&view=att&th=140bb367f4d8055c&attid=0.1&disp=inline&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P-pOXXlqG0eqGgGl7WATvJS&sadet=1377626510360&sads=-rx1xH3cuQH6Zo1EbOhVMFyITmI

  13. Thanks, yea i missed my other pathfinders a lot. I had a 84 Yota 4x4 that wheeled pretty good, but it wasnt the same as my pathfinders. I couldnt sleep in it when I would go camping and it was only a reg cab, and being 6'1 and 300lbs, I needed some more room lol. So yota is gone and I hunted for a 2 door 5 speed and got one. Much happier now.
  14. Whats up guys?? So I know Im not new, but Ive been mia for a couple years. BUT.......Im back with my 3rd 2 door pathy, and this time I got a 5 speed! So I just bought all my tune up items and am going to change all the fluids in it, seafoam it, and change the clutch this weekend. The previous owner did not take quite the care of this thing as he should have but Ive got my hands on it now and its already looking/driving better! So maybe some trips to Hollister are in order?? Ive gone twice this month in my buddies rigs so once I got the clutch in there, Im headed out
  15. yea i have a couple bills i have to deal with first, but then its on like donkey kong!! i have a plan for straight axle'n it but i know once its running again, i will prob just beat on it for awhile before i have to tear it down again, all my friends wheelers are down now but soon will be back on the road. so i am hoping in the next couple months she will be back on the roads and tearing up hollister, oh and precise1, would that engine even work in mine? if there was a way to get iut running good then i would consider it but i am not sure what i would have to swap over to run it
  16. well i know for my part, my engine went out so no more fun. i have had it sitting in my driveway for months debating on selling it. not trying to jack this thread (sorry) but is there anyone in the bay area or central valley who has done an engine swap? i am seriously debating doing one on my path, but would like it to stay pretty cheap. i could possibly rebuild it, it didnt blow up on me but i got a bad rod knock and stopped driving it. if anyone knows someone or maybe has a good engine, please let me know so i can start wheeling again!!! you can get me by PM, or email me (torqmonster06@yahoo.com) or for those social butterflies out there, look me up on facebook or myspace under Nigel Souders. again, sorry if this is the complete wrong place to do this, but i know alot of the local cali guys would be reading this
  17. well i have been toying with the idea for a long time and i think i may start on this project. i have always wanted to build a pre runner out of my pathy and when i get another DD in a couple weeks, i want to start. first off on the list is the swap to 2wd instead of my 4 wheel drive. i like my 4 wheel but two wheel will be so much easier to make. other than the obvious removing drivetrain (front axle and xfer case) what problems will i encounter? do i have to steal some parts from a 2wd nissan truck (back part of tranny) that was meant for 2wd since my xfer case will not be there? will all my electronics work fine with the removal of the xfer case? and depending on what tail section (of tranny) i use, will i need a longer driveshaft? as always all help and opinions is welcomed and appreciated.
  18. i do have an auto. everytime i start my vehicle, the power button flashes for awhile. and when i tried to check my ecu, it doesnt seem to work like in the directions say. i forgot, for my year do i have either one of these tranny's (RE4R01A/RL401A)? cuz i found the tranny code retrevial that i might try today.
  19. ok, i have had a strange tranny problem where if i bounce around alot, my path goes into some sort of limp mode where all i have is 1st and 2nd and to get to first i have to manually put it there. i wasn't sure why but some of you guys said you think it could be a loose wire under it. well i decided to look around under there for awhile and found this, the farthest right plug thing, its a black wire. ( the right side of the pic is towards the front of the vehicle) its cut but is still connected. it was on the passenger side and is by the xfer case and trans. could this be the culprit to my problems???????
  20. http://ruggedrocksoffroad.com/ they sell something you might be interested. they send your ecu to be flashed
  21. so did we ever decide on if we were going to have wheeling days or meets? i'm down as long as we do it around when my unemployment checks arrive lol.
  22. well i think that looks pretty snazzy!! now just a thought i got when i saw your drive shaft, do you think if you added somethin like a shock boot on that joint would help from anything gettin in there? i was thinkin that could help keep the splines clean and would be really cheap.
  23. well i didnt think an exhaust leak could be that loud. like i thought they were a soft tick. its pretty soft but i can still hear it when i drive. OH, another thing i noticed, you can hear it best when someone rev's up the engine a lil and on the down rev, you can hear it best. well i logged at least 550-600 miles on it last week and the noise is the same. so i am starting to think it is an exhaust leak.
  24. ok more details, i have never replaced the exhaust manifold studs, it seems to be a lil louder when its cold. when its fully warmed up i can hear it while driving slow with window down or at idle, so its not like it sounds like i have a baby diesel under the hood. the noise follows engine speed and i dont really hear it higher in the rpm's. its coming from the driver side and when i put my head by engine bay i can hear it alot louder. my path never seemed to have as much power as my 89 did and they were almost identical, but thats a different problem, it seems to be running pretty good.
