  1. welp thats a negative on the wiper switch getting an LED for today. took it apart and the bulb is insanely tiny. i also could not get the ash tray light out i think its soldered in there and the cigarette lighter light i did change but it wouldn't click back in because the LED was too tall. so i just glued it in and called it a day. i was finally also able to get the HVAC. i guess the first time i just didn't try hard enough but it does take some force to get it to move. Dash looks great now and i am very pleased

  2. Sounds like a battery cable issue to me too. The trip odo and clock should be on constant +, not switched by anything, so I doubt the relay had much to do with it. Could be the shock of the hood closing shook the cable back into place. If the battery terminal clamp is loose or corroded, it can work well enough to light up the dash until you turn the key, at which point the additional load burns out the spot that was making a connection and everything goes dark. If the terminals are tight, pull them off and make sure they're clean inside, they can corrode in between and cause the same issue (happened on one of my dad's trucks once). If the terminals are clean and tight, and the cables feel alright, check any big fuses in line with the + cable for any obvious looseness or corrosion.

  3. Thanks so much for the link! I may pick those up just to have everything on hand and make the job go smoothly. Good to know that a stick welder will work. I'll keep reaching out to see if I can find someone locally with one. Can't wait to see how it feels once these aren't flopping around anymore!

  4. The stock vg33er runs the water pump on the same belt as the steering pump. If you belt fails on the highway you will not notice a change in steering effort and if you are distracted you may not notice the temp needle rapidly climbing... This setup puts the water pump on the same belt as the alty instead of sharing it with the steering pump. The benefit is that if your water pump belt breaks your whole dash lights up because your alty stops too. I cut up a pulley from a 97 q45 to press and weld into the vg33er pulley to get the correct offset I needed.

  5. I would start by checking all of your battery cables and their connection points. It could very possibly be a poor connection, so look hard and be sure to grab the cables and give them a little tug/wiggle action. This same issue happened on my brother-in-laws car a few months ago, everything appeared ok visually, but as soon as I gave the negative cable a little tug, it flopped loose from the terminal connection. The stranded wire had actually disintegrated under the insulation just before the terminal. It's also not a bad idea to periodically inspect them and clean all the terminals, connections and ground points anyway, as this alone prevents numerous mysterious gremlins.

  7. Hi, my name is Alissa, I just bought my first ever Pathfinder a few weeks ago! I am so happy, I love it, and I really needed four wheel drive. I’m looking for support with repairs, as they come up, because I am a recent DIY mechanic, been learning to do small repairs for the last 5 years or so. Thanks for having me!
