  2. Hello everyone! I have an '87 4x4 XE-V6 Pathfinder, and the automatic transmission is going bad. I am looking to either get it rebuilt or swap it out. My questions are; Would it be easier/better to have it rebuilt or to replace it? If I replace it, would it be better to have automatic or manual? I'm aware that I can replace it with one from a newer year, is there a specific year that works best in the 87? Without having to replace the engine as well? Can I replace it with one from an Xterra, and if so, what years/auto/manual would be best? I mainly use it for overlanding/offroading, and I will have to drive it on the freeway to get it there. I've done a lot of work to it so far, so I'm trying to find the best option that's not gonna break the bank! Thank you for helping me out!

  3. You can do what I did with my 93 Pathfinder and the 85 300ZX I used to have. I found a local exhaust shop that was not a chain shop. Talked with the guy there and told him what I was after. With the Pathfinder, went with a 2.25" pipe from the Y back with new cat and turbo muffler. They custom bent the pipe and added heavy duty hangers with the tailpipe exiting straight out the back next to the side bracket of the trailer hitch. Still have no idea how my daughter managed to break it, but she does seem to have my abilities to break stuff. The Z got custom bent 2.5" cat back pipe with a magnaflow. Both exhaust systems cost less than stock parts, met my needs and sounded great, low rumble but didn't drone on the highway and was still able to talk at normal volumes with passengers. Also kept my torque curve wide and flat where I like it.

  4. So as you can see on FB video the flex that was showing in the first video is gone. I still have some wobble at about 45MPH but it not as bad and I think it might be a alignment issue. Any thoughts on that. The link did help alot thanks @fleurys.

  5. Does yours have the three-speed or the four-speed? 88+ got a four-speed, which is easily replaced with the later four-speeds (including the one from the first-gen Xterra). If you've got the three-speed, you may have a bit of a project on your hands converting the wiring and computer to run the four-speed, and sourcing parts to rebuild the three-speed might be a whole other challenge. If you want to go manual, the '96+ transmissions are slightly revised to hold up better, so you might as well take advantage of that. (Earlier boxes tended to have issues with the countershaft bearings; later boxes moved the fill hole up slightly to increase the oil level.) Any Pathfinder, Frontier, or Xterra with the 3.3 should have the updated trans. Takes a little screwing around to do an auto/manual swap (though there's at least one good thread on here from someone who's done it), but the good news is the engine computer won't notice or care.

  6. https://derale.com/product-footer/fluid-coolers/thermostats-1/fluid-control-thermostats Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEJD9fR_skw Of course I'd go with the 3/8 with 3/8 tube barbs. Trying to figure out what size external cooler and how I'd mount it. I don't want to put it in front of the AC condenser.

  8. I recently moved and directly across the street is a shop. I don't plan on spending a lot of time there , but he's got a lift and told me I could use it anytime I wanted. There's still good people in this world. Sent from my SM-S737TL using Tapatalk

  10. Hi guys . I am currently running an R50 pathfinder with 208,000 miles on it and other than basic maintenance and expected wearable parts it’s been tough . I am in search for a new daily driver work vehicle that can handle a lot of miles and hold up just the same as my current Pathfinder and was wondering if the R51 or Xterra would be a good buy. ideally I am looking to spend $7500 or less and I put between 20 and 30,000 miles per year on . I have also considered first generation Acura RDX, Subaru outback non-turbo as well as Forrester’s. Looking for the pros and cons as I would rather not drive a RAV4 haha.

  11. Also, don't forget to fill out all the information in your profile! Location, year and specs on your truck, etc. This information can really help others help you!

  12. Interesting, so they clearly did make OEM glass fogs. I see your truck is a 1997, which should have the same fogs as my '99.5 Pathy. I wonder if the glass ones were reserved for QX4s? Also, would you by any chance consider selling that glass set?
