  1. If the marks you are talking about are the ones on the belt itself, that is normal and nothing to worry about. Has something to do with the number of teeth on the belt and it's routing.

  2. The lines are just a shortcut and a visual aid for getting the timing correct when you're first assembling it. If you've got 40 teeth between the dimples on the cam sprockets, and 43 teeth from the driver's cam sprocket to the crank sprocket, then it's timed properly.

  3. Nice thing about Dextron ATF is that it is all backwards compatible. The Dextron VI is fine for your trans. With my large Hayden trans cooler and bypassed cooler in the radiator, I have found that my trans tends to run a bit too cold. With weather in the 90's, and 33x12.50 MT's, my trans temp gauge tends to stay about 165-170°f most of the time it isn't really a problem, but does cause the converter clutch to hunt on the freeway.

  4. I got caught 3 wheeling again a few days ago! So, I leave for school in 1.5 weeks. I have the cash for a front locker (The lokka model) already pulled out and ready to go. But it looks like the money’s just gonna sit at home until I come back from school. Maybe a spring break trip for a Spines2Pines install could be in order? I’m really not sure yet. I won’t need the locker while I’m at college so that’s good, but it sucks to be stuck where I am. I’m gonna tidy up a few small maintenance things before I head out (front brakes, oil change, undercoating, tie rod dust boot), and I think that’ll be about it for the year. Thanks for everyone’s help this year, the pathy has come along way. But with homework looming and the paychecks coming to an end, I think this thread is gonna be pretty silent for the next 8 months or so. If I find any trails in Iowa I’ll be sure to update all of you. Thanks again for being such a great community.

  5. What I see in the pictures is the vent for the transmission and transfer case. I found many years ago that the trans, tcase, and front axle all had extended vent hoses that were teed together with the hard line attached to the right side firewall ending in a loop a little below the cowling. As was said above, transmission most likely got hot and was probably overfilled. Those conditions will force some fluid out of the vent. I would check the fluid levels in the trans and tcase. If the fluid has more than 15k miles on it, I would change it as well. It costs more, but a full synthetic fluid will do a much better job of protecting the trans and is much less expensive than a rebuild or replacement. It would be a good time to replace the lube in the axles and tcase as well.

  6. I agree, I have a 2001 jetta with 340,000 miles, I like the engine a lot. Seems that with a tune, tubo and injectors you will be well over the HP and torque of our pathfinders even with a VG33. What is your plan for a transmission?
