  1. While I’ve never needed one for a vehicle, I’ve used them on fires I’ve run across at least 3-4 times. That & water of course. Honestly, it’s sobering that I’ve come upon fires that just got started that often. Culprits: vehicle exhaust on dry brush, trailer chains & poorly extinguished fire rings.

  3. Yeah, the lug nuts are different, I can take a pic but they have a necked down part that goes in the wheel, rather than just clamping against the face.

  5. Yep! I put LR springs and Bilsteins on the rear, giving about 2.5" of lift. I have a 2" spacer on the front now, but next week KYB/OME springs with 1" spacer. I have skid plates on now and rock sliders are coming next week, along with manual hubs. Lots to do! I actually bought that QX4 brand new in 2002 and never drove it very much, so it has pretty low miles on it. The benefit of a California car, especially where I live and it's almost always 70F, is no rust, leaks etc. It's technically my 16 year old son's truck now, but I'm having fun working on it.

  6. You wont be disappointed. Just make sure to get manual hubs at the same time and always use the 2WD option on your All-mode transfer case when street driving. I'm not aware of any variances, should be the same as all LSD equipped R50's If I had to do it all over again with my truck I would have gone with front and rear springs with a front locker for the first modifications. Those alone will give any R50 the clearance and confident traction to get through almost anything and truly determine what is needed next to get it to your performance goal, if anything. The downside is it will get you in and out of places the truck can now handle with ease but requires sliders and under-body armor to prevent damage from the rough terrain. I waited to put sliders on and it happened to me. Not that it matters as my rig is mostly used mostly for recreational purposes but you clearly have a really nice QX4 so try to keep it that way!

  7. Not at all. This is the cheapest and most straight forward way to lock up the rear axle of the truck. A whole new axle would be much more expensive and labor intensive with some fabrication required. This swap is %100 bolt on. No fab work, grinding, welding etc. Hard part is finding donor axle shafts with everything else being readily available off the shelf OEM hardware

  8. If you know anything about me by now, it’s that I tend to research the hell of out of things and write long posts about it. Well, this one is about how to put a 31-spline locker into a Pathfinder (or Frontier or Xterra). For the TL;DR crowd… You can swap in two versions of 31-spline axle shafts from specific D22/U Frontiers into 33-spline R50 Pathfinder, D22/U Frontier, or WD22 Xterra in order to use mechanical lockers intended for WD21 Pathfinder, D21 Hardbody, and Y60/Y61 Patrol models. This isn’t a theory post. I bought axle shafts, a mechanical locker, all the axle hardware, measured everything, assembled everything, and test fit it into my spare R50 H233B axle with a WD21 LSD installed. As a technicality, you can also do this in a JR50 QX4 and R50 Pathfinder with All-Mode AWD, but don’t plan on using Auto mode. It can also be done on any 2wd model, provided it has an H233B axle. It’ll even work for using the tighter LSDs found in W/D21s. For you international folks, Frontier is Navara and Pathfinder is Terrano. The Project This started as musings that an off-the-shelf 31-spline (hereafter “31/s”) mechanical locker could fit 33-spline (“33/s”) H233B axles with enough mashup of parts from certain axles or differentials. TowndawgR50 and I started talking about it in several months ago as a cheaper alternative to an air or electronic locker. Over time, it became obvious that this would be possible. I originally planned to do this on my own truck first, but the project shifted to him when I happened to be passing through his neck of the woods and could deliver everything personally. R&D went well overall, but was not with setbacks, including a big one that put the project in a coma for the past several weeks. One of the original axle shafts I bought was slightly bent, we lost time and money dealing with the returns (two, in fact...the replacement we received was wrong), and then went through minor hell finding another replacement because—at the time—there was only one known axle shaft that would work (hence my Parts Wanted post about pulling a part from a truck in Austin, of all places.) I eventually found another replacement—just the other day, in fact—and...well, it was quite surprise considering it’s not even from an H233B axle. It has brought the project back to life. The project as it exists right now is quite the Frankenstein: a Spartan locker for a Patrol, two different (yet “same”) Frontier axle shafts, and a mix of D22 and R50 parts. Planning to do the same swap—timed with a rear disc brake swap—I had also ordered a Patrol Lokka, but they dropped the ball and struggled to both communicate and fulfill the order, so I cancelled the order. I was looking forward to a dual-Lokka R50. But anyway, the project is real again, finally. I still have a few parts to send to TowndawgR50, but I’m pretty excited to see this come alive. I'll let him fill in any details after all is said and done (fingers crossed no other issues!) That all said, let’s do this... First, some background… Nissan used the H233B axle in US-based trucks and SUVs until the 2005 models. It came in leaf- and coil-sprung flavors, with either 31- or 33-spline axle shafts. Axles prior to R50 and W/D22 models were narrower. Internally, there were a few varieties of open and LSD carriers and configurations, but the differentials were dimensionally the same. Generally speaking, the internals are interchangeable to some degree across all models. Specifically, by axle shaft spline count, 31/s models had more traction options, including: Air lockers: ARB and TJM* E-lockers: Eaton* Mechanical: Detroit (Eaton), two Lock Right versions (Powertrax/Richmond), Spartan*, and Lokka* Limited-slip: OE Open: OE *These are for the 31/s front axle found in Patrols. The splining is the same as non-Patrol rear applications. Conversely, 33/s models had the same options except no mechanical lockers, and the OE LSDs were 35%-90% weaker than their W/D21 counterparts.

  9. That wont work on any R50 unless you swap over to a 31 spline setup. All R50 H233B rear axles are setup with 33 spline. The 31 spline swap has been done and @hawairish documented the steps and parts needed.

  10. That sure was a quick run. I hope you pointed the owner in NPORA’s direction (or was it a dealer trade-in, if so, you should have left a NPORA message in the glovebox or just inside the owner’s manual).

  11. Once you install the snorkel could you please post a picture on how you fastened the snorkel along the windshield? Thanks,

  12. Yep. And you can get d22 snorkels for under 100 all day on eBay. Or make your own from stainless pipe for 60-75

  13. Honestly you could make just about anything work. Some guys have made an XJ snorkel fit, but a D22 Navara snorkel is the closest fit I believe, as Enri said.

  15. Installing a bigger gauge package and getting rid of the smaller ones. I've already had to do a little bit of cutting on my bracket that goes to the radio but I think I'm going to make it work. Sent from my SM-S737TL using Tapatalk

  16. OK, dumped my t/c to find brown/red ATF. Glad that I did so as probably has not been done since leaving factory. Replaced with Castrol high mileage ATF formulated for Nissan Matic “D” transmissions and t/c. Thanx all for the input. MTG

  20. Installed a fire extinguisher and cleaned out my drain holes. The passenger front was really really bad I started getting some leakage above the passenger side door on the headliner. Problem solved. Sent from my SM-S737TL using Tapatalk

  25. Today was the day the pathfinder was sold, definitely really bummed about it. We got a good price out of it but sad to see your first car go. Although when we traded it in we gained a new addition to the family! We got a 2018 TRD Sport Tacoma and man is this thing sweet
